THE Isle of Wight needs you — that’s the message from Ecoisland, which needs your vote to win £10,000 as part of the Team Green Britain awards.

David Green, chief executive of Ecoisland, is already a 'Team Green Britain Hero' for his work in promoting sustainability and is now in the running for 'SuperHero’ status.

There can only be one SuperHero and winning would put the Island on the sustainability map and result in a £10,000 grant for a sustainable scheme of Ecoisland’s choice.

Voting opens in early August and people can register to vote by visiting www.teamgreenbritain.org/join-us

As part of his role as a Team Green Britain Hero, David — winner of the prestigious Sustainability Executive of the Year award at the 2012 Business Green Leaders Awards — was invited to the Olympic Park to see its green credentials.

He was asked to headline a video campaign documenting the wide range of sustainable architecture and measures at the park, which was launched today (Friday) and can be viewed at www.eco-island.org

David said: "The whole concept of harmonious regeneration really fits with what we are working towards here on the Island.

"The planning that has gone into lowering the environmental impact of all the structures and the landscaping of the park itself is a triumph.

"This is reflected in the Ecoisland vision — it’s all about using new technologies and traditional methods, creating sustainable buildings, restoring the balance of nature and leaving a lighter footprint on the land."

Team Green Britain is a community of people with one shared aim — to demonstrate that living a low-carbon life isn’t only possible, it is usually better.

Dave Stubbs, head of sustainability for the London 2012 Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, said: "Ecoisland is an exciting opportunity to demonstrate sustainability at a regional scale and I hope it will prove to be an an inspiration for others to develop similar initiatives."
