A NEW befriending service for parents of children with disabilities has been launched.

Face 2 Face offers one-to-one emotional support service for parents, during the diagnosis of their child’s need or at a time of crisis.

Volunteer befrienders, who all have a child with a disability, have been trained to provide support and empower and encourage parents.

Scheme coordinator Ally Nordbruch-Goode said a support service for parents was overdue.

She said: "Lots of professionals have told me how parents who have a child with a disability want to be put in touch with other parents.

"Whatever the disability, the feelings and emotions parents feel is often the same so we hope to help people by bringing them together." Support can be face-to-face, via e-mail or on the telephone and referrals can be made by parents or professionals. For details, call Ally on 07435 966750 or e-mail ally.nordbruch@scope.org.uk
