For many years there used to be a memorial plaque in Bexley Woods to Scouts of the 1st Bexleyheath Scout Group, who gave their lives in the two world wars.
The memorial was on a tree but the unobservant would not have seen it due to the height it was placed.
Unfortunately, sometime in the latter part of last year, it either fell or was knocked from its resting place onto the ground.
It was found by someone who realised its significance and contacted a member of the Erith and Crayford Scout District and passed the plaque on to them.
It would appear, over the years, on or about Remembrance Day, a wreath or flowers have been placed under the tree by someone and I am sure that would have happened again last year, had the plaque been in its usual place.
The plaque is at present lodged with the Bexleyheath Scout District Archivist, while a decision is made to either return it to the woods or to find another suitable position possibly at the District Scout Centre.
We would be interested to hear from those who placed the floral tributes and from any one who may have memorabilia they would be willing to share with us regarding the 1st Bexleyheath Scout Group. Please contact the writer at address below.
