A POLICE investigation has been launched after a number of 'suspicious items' were found in Parkhurst Forest.

The items, believed to be connected to a crime, were discovered at around 3pm on Friday by a dog walker.

Police were called to the scene and the area, near Noke Common, remains cordoned off today (Sunday).

A police spokesman said: "There is no danger to the public. It is believed the items have been there for some time and are not connected to recent activity.

"Officers from Hampshire Contabulary are continuing their investigation."

There is nothing to suggest the items are connected with missing teenager Damien Nettles, said the spokesman.

Damien's family have previously called on police to search the forest, believing his body could be buried there.
