AN auction of musical instruments and equipment by Island musician Mark King raised £11,500 for charity.

Mark, who plays bass in Level 42, recently became a patron of Beaulieu House respite home, Newport.

The online auction featured some of his prized musical possessions, including a limited edition bass amplifier with 24ct gold-plated front and Mark’s KingBass mk1 guitar.

The items fetched £8,617, which was boosted by donations.

Mark said: "It is fantastic and I just want to thank everybody for their support. I am trying to help raise the profile of Beaulieu House and raise funds for equipment. It will make a tremendous difference to all the kids and families that use the facility."

Beaulieu House, in Fairlee Road, opened seven years ago to give families with children who have special needs a much-needed break once or twice a week.

The home currently provides care for 34 young people with complex needs, including two long-term residents.
