Sweetcorn Fayre set to a-maize

ALL things sweetcorn, and much more, are promised at the weekend’s sixth annual Sweetcorn Fayre at Arreton Old Village.

From 10am to 5pm tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday, the event is staged to raise funds for the Earl Mountbatten Hospice and Ventnor Lions, having last year netted more than £8,000 for the hospice.

Cow bingo, a snail derby and terrier racing are promised as well as many displays and arena entertainment, plus craft and produce stalls. There is also the Maize Maize and barbecued food — including, of course, sweetcorn — and more than 30 real ales and ciders.

The fayre sees the launch of the first two The Nosey Pacas books by former advertising agency creative director and Island artist Phil Capon.

He will be giving a short talk on alpacas for children and reading from his books.
