Swine flu drug take-up down

By County Press Reporter

Friday, December 4, 2009

THE number of Islanders collecting anti-viral drugs and being assessed for swine flu has dropped.

A total of 38 swine flu assessments were carried out from December 1 to 3, compared to 181 carried out from November 1 to 6.

There were 20 prescriptions for anti-viral drugs in the same period, compared to 101.

The number of swine flu cases on the Island is slowly beginning to decrease but NHS Isle of Wight staff are prepared for the fact seasonal flu usually starts to increase at this time of year.

The number of swine flu cases may well increase over Christmas when people are travelling and visiting friends and family.
