A PROJECT to help people with mental health problems overcome loneliness and isolation is being launched by Greenwich Council's social services department.
It is called Companions and aims to match a service user with a volunteer who would take them out to the cinema, sports club, or anything they would both enjoy.
One person in four, experiences problems with mental health at some stage in their life.
Greenwich Council's executive member for health and social care Councillor David Grant said: "The success of this new scheme depends on people volunteering to give a few hours of their time each week.
"I am concerned about the welfare of those with mental health problems. I fully support this scheme, which will undoubtedly help to alleviate the loneliness and isolation some people with mental health problems can experience."
