AN ISLE of Wight Primary school teacher took a lot of stick to raise money for Go Orange Day.
Jamie Collings, a Year 4 teacher at Broadlea Primary School, Lake, volunteered himself as a willing victim for the cause in aid of the Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat yesterday (Friday).
For just £1, pupils — and the odd vindictive member of staff — used gaffer tape to stick the PE co-ordinator to the bike shed.
The school’s deputy headteacher, Lizzie Chambers, said: "It was great fun to watch Jamie being almost mummified in tape. For a laugh, we also took away the bench he was standing on to see him stuck to the shed.
"Last year, a member of staff did the baked beans in the bath thing, but this year we wanted to do something the kids could have more involvement in.
"We support the lifeboat because child safety at the beach is very important."
Children also paid £1 to wear orange mufti, which included some coming along as lifeboatmen.
The event raised over £450 with more money yet to come.
One of the lifeboat’s crew, David Millard, gave a series of talks about the work the volunteer rescue organisation does to children at the school on Thursday.
