THE first day of Loughton Athletic Clubs championships saw the 100m and 400m on the track and the shot and discus competitions in the field.

In the 100m races there were some close battles in the U15 and U17 girls race. Shelley Brown came home first in 14.7secs just in front of Amanda Hardy while Becky Hill was first in the U15 in 15.7.

The U13 age group brought wins for Olivier Fernandez, who normally specialises in race walking, in the boys event and Freya Thompson in the girls. John Innis took second and third place was taken by Paul Regan in the boys and Charlotte Boon in the girls.

Philippa Brown won the Junior Womens race and Paulette Regan won the Veteran Ladies event in a time of 16.8 from Sharon Herbert in 18.3.

Chris Carter set the fastest time of the day when winning the Junior Mens category in 12.9secs and David Hobbs was first veteran, setting a new club record for the V50 age group with a time of 13.7secs.

Marc Fernandez was first in the senior mens age group, while in the Vets list John Cash (V60) was second in 16.4 with Ted Cash third. Winners of the 400m events were Amanda Hardy (U17 Ladies) in a time of 68.8secs, Paulette Regan (Vets) 82.9secs, David Hobbs (Vets Men) 65.5 and Olivier Fernandez (U13 Boys) 71.2secs.

The throwing events brought a win for Freya Thompson in the U13 Girls event with a distance of 5.16m in the shot putt while Olivier Fernandez scored a double with wins in the shot 6.28m and discus 14.79m.

In the Junior Womens category Philippa Brown won the discus with a throw of 30.12m while Nichola Brown won the shot.

Double wins were scored by Shelley Brown in the U17 Ladies Category with 7.36m in the shot and 16.86m in the discus while Jackie Brown won the Vets Ladies events with 6.24m in the shot and 17.18m in the discus.

Tony Fernandez won the Vets Mens events with 7.04m in the shot and 23.90 in the discus.
