BLACKHEATH Rugby Club stepped up a gear in the final quarter to clinch a 34-27 win in a friendly with the Army last Wednesday.
Floodlight failure delayed kick-off, but once underway spectators were treated to eight tries in a thoroughly entertaining encounter.
Fast back play dominated the match, with Blackheath's straight running and simple passing a contrast to the ambitious, intricate moves worked by the Army.
With the score at 20-20 after 58 minutes, with a wonderful try by Army fly-half Graham, the scene was set for a thrilling climax. Blackheath were more purposeful and two converted tries within nine minutes gave them victory.
