A TEENAGER arrested in connection with a fire at a house in Newport yesterday has pleaded guilty to arson.
The youth, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, appeared before Isle of Wight Youth Court Magistrates this afternoon (Wednesday) and pleaded guilty to causing the fire at the terraced town house at St John’s Place.
The teenager is due to be sentenced on December 19 and was remanded in youth custody.
The blaze broke out at about 2pm, with firefighters from Newport and Cowes called to the scene.
A witness described seeing people frantically trying to break down the door of the property. No-one was injured, however two dogs had to be rescued from the burning home.
