THREE teenage boys had a lucky escape when they were pulled from the sea by two members of Freshwater Independent Lifeboat and a passer-by at Freshwater Bay last Thursday.
The three boys, all believed to be around 16, were spotted in the water opposite the Albion Hotel by passer-by, Dave Windsor, at around 5pm.
They had become trapped by waves which prevented them from getting ashore. Two members of Freshwater Independent Lifeboat, operations manager, Mark Gould, coxswain, Andy Cotten, and Mr Windsor, threw lifebelts to the youngsters and pulled them ashore.
Mr Gould said: "They were caught by the backwash coming from the sea wall. They could not move to get out of the sea. They were just held there and were not strong enough swimmers. They were very lucky."
