A FIRE education project for young people which highlights the consequences of anti-social behaviour and helps develop teamwork, concluded with all participants taking part in a parade.
Eleven teenagers took part in the annual Local Intervention Fire Education (LIFE) scheme at Ryde Fire Station over five days.
Participants had to manage and maintain firefighting equipment and the station in general.
The course, supported by the Isle of Wight Council, concluded with a passing out parade, in recognition of their efforts, at the station last month.
The aim of the project, into its third year, was to show the consequences of anti-social behaviour, providing an intensive work experience course within a team and encourage youngsters to address fire safety issues.
Deborah Cameron, the Isle of Wight Council’s interim assistant director for children and young people, said: "We continue to receive excellent feedback from those taking part. Many young people see people, such as firefighters, as an inspiration as they look to overcome difficulties in their lives. Schemes such as LIFE continue to prove very successful.
"Many of the previous participants have made marked improvements to their behaviour and school attendance, which shows the LIFE scheme is a very valuable and successful one."
