Telling Isle of Wight business about PFI

By County Press Reporter - Tuesday, June 30, 2009
THE opportunities open to Island business through the multi-million pound Highways PFI is will be outlined during a conference in August.
The event at Quay Arts will provide a chance for businesses to explore how they can benefit from the PFI project that will see the entire Island highway, footway and right-of-way network upgraded and maintained for 25 years.
Though the project itself will see unprecedented investment in the Island’s transport infrastructure, it is also represents huge opportunities for local businesses. There are also major employment ands training opportunities.
"The PFI really is a once in a lifetime regeneration opportunity and the council is extremely keen that local business makes the most of this unique opportunity," said Stuart Love, Isle of Wight Council director of environment and
neighbourhoods.
"There are a great many possibilities for Island businesses to get involved in what will be the largest engineering project ever undertaken on the Island.
"The council is delighted to have secured the PFI because of the opportunity it provides in terms of bringing our roads and footpaths up to standard.
But that is only half of it, because the project will represent major opportunities for local businesses and suppliers. The conference will outline those possibilities and also encourage business to make the most of
this inward investment."
The council is therefore keen to encourage the Island’s highway-related businesses and their supply chains to the August 21 conference.
Admission will be strictly by invitation only. To register your interest e-mail
highways-pfi-conference@iow.gov.uk by August 14.
