Five-year-old Belle Smith, with ‘laughing’ class donkey, Poppy.
AS A joke it was obviously almost funny enough to make Poppy the donkey laugh her head off …
Poppy created more than her share of giggles herself, with her gurning at the Donkey Sanctuary, Wroxall, when she was visited by Wroxall Primary School’s new Reception children and Years 1 and 2.
They went for a walk from school along the old railway track to the sanctuary to meet their class donkeys, Snowy and Poppy.
Every class at Wroxall is named after a donkey — Snowy, Poppy, Fred, Brandy and Thumper — and the children help to raise money for them through various fundraising events during the year.
After the visit, sanctuary volunteer charity manager Derek Needham said pupils, and staff, were "brilliant" in the support and enthusiasm they showed.
