The fun begins at Bestival

BESTIVAL kicked off today (Thursday) and thousands of music lovers have already made their way to the Isle of Wight event.

A large portion of the 50,000 strong crowd is expected to set up camp at the Robin Hill site today (Thursday) with plenty of early highlights on offer.

Action on the main stage does not start until tomorrow (Friday), however there will be performances from the likes of the Alabama Shakes, Hot Chip and Gary Numan in the Big Top.

A host of local bands also feature in today's line-up, including JC and Angelina, The Golden Strands, The Ohmz, The Vecks, Cooly Haste and Signals.

Bestival curator Rob da Bank will help bring the first day to a close with a DJ set at the Arcadia stage.

The Beatles' film Yellow Submarine, featuring the voice of late Isle of Wight actor Geoffrey Hughes, is to be screened at the new Amphitheatre.

Following a report of 'day' tickets being sold online, Bestival organisers warned that there were no day tickets available for the event, which officially sold out last week.
