DANNY JENNINGS, chairman of Berkhamsted Town, has emerged as a key player as a mystery consortium lines up a potential bid to rescue St Albans City FC from the hands of the recievers.

However, the Berko supremo has made it clear that his priorities remain firmly fixed on his own club.

"My allegiance is with Berkhamsted Town football club," said Jennings. "There is no doubt about that at all.

"Berkhamsted are currently in the process of trying to move to a new ground as well so I am obviously fully focused on my team.

"However, I do feel that everybody in the non-league football community should be doing their bit to help a club like St Albans."

City have now been under league suspension for almost three weeks with the threat of a winding up order on Wednesday, February 20, hanging over the club like a dark cloud.

Majority shareholder Lee Harding has already rejected one bid to buy the club from a local consortium of businessmen and supporters but it is believed the former chairman is more willing to listen to this latest offer.

The news of the mystery consortium's interest is welcome, but fans are warned that any sort of deal may still be a long way off.

Jennings said: "We want to see the club's books as soon as possible. Our short term aim is to see the club safe but there must be time for due dilligence."

"It is a coincidence that I have a business partner who is keen to get involved in a football club and invest money. As a chairman, I am able to offer advice and guidance."

Meanwhile, the Supporters Club have arranged a meeting to inform fans of the latest developments as well as discuss and debate the current position of the club.

To be chaired by Councillor Malcolm MacMillan president of the football club the meeting will take place on Thursday, February 7, at the Council Chambers, Council Offices in St Peters Street. The meeting starts at 8pm but doors open at 7.30pm.

The team have a chance to regain some of their match-sharpness on Saturday with a friendly against fellow Ryman Premier outfit Grays Athletic.

The match, to be played at Clarence Park, kicks off at 1pm and entry is free.
