The Range looks set to open Island branch

HOME, leisure and garden retailer, The Range, could be coming to the Isle of Wight.

Gurnard parish councillors were told on Tuesday the national chain was a prospective tenant of the former Readers building, in Place Road, on the outskirts of the parish.

If plans move forward, David Neame, acting for the site owner, told councillors, the existing building would be refurbished and served by a 190-space car park.

He said there were no plans to extend the building, which has around 30,000 sq ft of floor space and the existing self-storage business would not be affected.

Mr Neame stressed the plans were still at a draft stage and there would be full public consultation.

When the CP asked The Range about its plans, a spokesperson said they had yet to be confirmed.

I have to agree with T Rollingsworth, it could also see the end of firms such as Hursts as well. More out of town shopping closes smaller businesses.

I don't get it, everybody complains when Costa open a new store as it's taking business away, yet a shop that causes more competition for Dunhelm Mill and local garden centres opens, we're ok with it? Hmm,.. interesting.

Excellent, any big organisation such as this that wants to come over here is good news in my opinion.

Nar, some rich influential member of the council will have his own land that he's willing to sell, so will block the bid hoping to sell the freehold on his land for over £1m and the range build him a house on the mainland etc etc etc
Just like the tesco development. Councillors need feeding!!

Great!

Prospects of employment and not taking up any virgin land.

All for it. Let's hope it comes off
