How the Totland pier would look if the plans are passed.
HOLIDAY accommodation, beach huts and a contemporary two-storey cafe could be housed on Totland Pier if multi-million-pound refurbishment plans are given the green light.
Mainland-based company Farnham Developments Ltd is in discussions with Isle of Wight Council planning officers and the Environment Agency about transforming the pier, which is owned by Freshwater artist Derek Barran.
If plans are approved, the pier will be sold to the company.
Under its proposals, the pier would reopened to the public, beach huts would be installed along it and a new holiday dwelling would be built at the pierhead, replacing the studio used by Mr Barran.
Arrangements regarding use of the proposed holiday accommodation and beach huts have yet to be made.
The cafe at the entrance to the pier would be replaced by a two-storey cafe. Structural reinforcement work is also planned, with railings and decking to be replaced.
An open day will be held at Totland Pier cafe on Wednesday, between 3pm and 8.30pm, to give the public the opportunity to give feedback on the proposals.
A planning application could be submitted to the Isle of Wight Council this month.
"The pier is an important and valued landmark and the proposals represent an exciting opportunity to bring the pier back to life and secure its future," said Mike de Courcy, of Bell Cornwell LLP Planning Consultants, for Farnham Developments Ltd.
Mr Barran said he supported the plans, as he could no longer afford to maintain the pier. "The pier is in serious need of help and I am not a rich man but I am impressed with the plans and we’ll see how it develops," he said.
