THIEVES have struck in Ventnor, targeting a hotel, prompting a police investigation.

A spokesman said several flagstones and a bench from the front of the Hillside Hotel in Mitchell Avenue were taken sometime between 11.15pm on Saturday, April 21 and 6am on Monday, April 23.

"It’s believed whoever was responsible would have used a vehicle to move the items because of their weight," said the spokeman.

PC Sue Gill of South Wight Safer Neighbourhoods team said:  "Attractive old stone, metal, garden furniture and ornaments can make tempting and lucrative targets for thieves.

"I would like to take this opportunity to remind residents to keep outdoor items as secure as possible, and to photograph and security mark them if they can."

Anyone with information can contact police by phoning 101 or emailing southwight.snt@hampshire.pnn.police.uk Mini-com users can call phone 01962 875000. Information can be given anonymously by the phoning the independent Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
