A list of dos and don'ts for would-be developers of RAF Stanmore Park was published this week.

Harrow Council has revised its planning brief because original outline permission, granted in 1993, has lapsed.

The Ministry of Defence, which ceased operational use of the historic base in Uxbridge Road in April last year, intends to submit a fresh planning application within the next few months and market the 35 acre site later in the year.

The two main land uses of the site will be residential buildings and public open space. Plans for a new Roman Catholic primary school are also being discussed (see report above).

More than 20 acres of the land will be used for homes of differing sizes. At least a quarter of them will be for "affordable housing" but there may also be parcels of larger homes.

A report due to go the council's housing committee tonight said: "Large repetitive schemes are discouraged in favour of smaller, more intimate groups of houses and flats."

There is plenty of emphasis on green space. A "green corridor" will link entry points at Gordon Avenue and Uxbridge Road and secure access to Temple Pond. A further six acres will be used for public open space.

Five council committees will discuss the plans which will also be put out for public consultation.
