JAYNE Forbes is of course entitled to her opinion about CPZs (Readers' Letters, February 15). But there are always good reasons why people complain about CPZs.

CPZs can make or break small businesses run from home like child minders. Also what about family visiting family? I value my family and don't want to have to pay to visit them or pick up my children from their grandparents every single day twice a day.

Most people don't have cars for fun; they are functional and essential for day to day living and bringing in a wage.

Four years ago I was forced out of the area I was brought up in through high house prices and targeted social housing policy housing non-local people. My car became essential to drive my children to their school daily and then get me to work in time. I don't want to be late, so that I can keep my job. My job pays my mortgage. My mortgage keeps the roof over my head.

A CPZ forces another extra cost on me that I cannot afford.

If, however, you adequately staff Haringey's planning department it can be more pro-active in placing conditions on developments in the borough which place parking stress in the locality. This is not being done comprehensively at the moment. The Government has advised that parking requirements are not always essential as people can walk to the service or house. This as most people know is rubbish and really doesn't help planners. Cars are not going to go away, Ms Forbes, but imaginative and pro-active planning can change things.
