Thousands raised to help youngster come home

A STAGGERING £3,007 was raised this weekend at a charity auction for the Lottie Rann Trust, to help ring a paralysed little girl home to the Isle of Wight.

Held at Scott's Hair Salon, Ventnor, top lots at Saturday's auction included a day trip donated by Isle of Wight Campervan Holidays, which went for £130, and afternoon tea at Ventnor' Royal Hotel, which was snapped up for £80.

Scott's owner, Charlotte Back, couldn't resist bidding £235 for dinner at the Hambrough Hotel, and will take her husband to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary.

"There must have been about 60 people and everyone was so generous. When one chap didn't win the campervan prize, he put £100 in anyway," said Charlotte, 43, who donated £500 worth of prizes from Scott's.

"We were so pleased businesses supported the auction and thrilled we raised so much. My daughters went to school with Lottie and when I read about her in the County Press, I wanted to help."

Lottie, 11, was paralysed from the neck down after contracting meningitis for a second time and is living at a Surrey rehabilitation centre. Her family is trying to raise funds to adapt their Niton bungalow so they can bring her home.

Lottie's cousin, Jesse Rann, 24, was the auctioneer on Saturday and said: "I am so overwhelmed by the support for Lottie from the Island people. It makes me so proud to live here knowing we support each other."

Ryde firefighters presented a £500 cheque to Lottie's teenage brother, Harry, and further events are scheduled for this weekend.

A Body Byrne bootcamp will be held at Carisbrooke CE Primary School, at 10am on Saturday, March 16, and a cycle ride will be held on Sunday, March 17, starting at the Riverside Centre at 10am. Medium Estelle Webster is holding a clairvoyance evening at Godshill Village Hall next Friday, (March 22) evening, with all proceeds going to the trust.
