AN investigation is being carried out to establish the cause of a collision between a police car and an elderly woman's Toyota on the Isle of Wight's Military Road on Saturday evening.

The woman driver and two police officers from the Volvo estate were taken to St Mary's Hospital soon after 7pm for treatment for injuries described by police as "minor."

The two cars were in collision at the junction of the Military Road and Chine Lane.

The Military Road was closed for some time while the wreckage and debris was cleared.

Both cars were badly damaged.

An Isle of Wight police spokesman said today (Monday): "A marked police Volvo was travelling along Military Road, Ventnor just before 7.10pm when it was in collision with a Toyota Yaris.

"The driver of the Yaris, an 80-year-old woman from the Niton area, was taken to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment to a fractured clavicle.

"Both police officers inside the marked vehicle sustained whiplash injuries. All three were treated at hospital but have since been discharged.

"An investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the collision is ongoing."
