THREE people have been rescued from a yacht that has run aground on Sandown beach.
The 36ft motor yacht Barracuda has been stuck since around 5am this morning (Thursday).
Crews from the Bembridge and Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Teams - who helped the three people on board ashore, after they called the UK Coastguard for help in the early hours - remain on the beach this morning
A UK Coastguard spokesman said rescuers were discussing the best way to refloat the beached vessel.
The boat started to take on water when the tide came in this morning, leaving it partially submerged.
An Isle of Wight Council spokesman said: "Contractors acting for the council will be on site to advise members of the public.
"The incident is being investigated by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and the council (from a shoreline management perspective)."
Recreation and public spaces manager, Lee Matthews, added: “This is a precautionary measure while the condition of the vessel is investigated, its removal undertaken, and with a view to containment of any fuel present.”
