Three-vehicle crash near Shanklin

ONE person was trapped in a three-vehicle collision on the road between Shanklin and Whiteley Bank last night (Thursday).

A spokesman for the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said two appliances were sent to the incident, along with the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, which dispatched five ambulances, and police.

The incident was reported at 8.42pm.

An ambulance service spokesman said this morning (Friday): "Six casulaties were tranferred to accident and emergency, one of which, a male, had been cut free from vehicle."

Three of the casualties are believed to have been teenagers and were described as walking wounded.

None of the injuries were believed to be life-threatening.

The road was closed between Whiteley Bank and Victoria Avenue for several hours while it was cleared of debris. It was re-opened early this morning.
