ISLE of Wight MP Andrew Turner is to open a Ventnor project where individuals and groups swap time spent helping their community for rewards.
Ventnor Town Council is launching the first Timebank project on the Isle of Wight, at Ventnor Library, tomorrow (Saturday).
The Timebank works by allowing people to 'bank’ the hours they spend volunteering, where one hour equals one time credit.
The credits can then be exchanged for voluntary help from others, or swapped for rewards, such as cinema tickets.
Julia Aratoon, community development worker for Ventnor Town Council, said: "The Timebank in its basic form rewards groups and individuals for working with each other.
"It will operate under a currency of goodwill and has already attracted a diverse team of volunteers."
The launch at the library will start at 9.30am on Saturday with coffee, cakes and face painting for children, with the formal introduction from Andrew Turner at 10.30am.
Julia said: "If you feel like meeting new people, making the most of your time and doing something positive in your community, Timebanking is for you."
