A PROPOSAL that could see East Cowes enjoy royal recognition is to be discussed at a public meeting next week.

Cllr (elect) Karl Love has organised the meeting at East Cowes Methodist Church to explore the possibility of petitioning for the town to become Royal East Cowes.

It will take place on Friday at 6.45pm and last around an hour.

"I raised the idea of petitioning at the AGM of the Isle of Wight Society meeting at the Heritage Centre last week.

"It was thought to be a good idea and I welcome their support. Our town truly has a rich history and it time to shout it from the roof tops.

"As part of my thinking I'd like to see a monument, to the towns people and their achievements, encompassing our most famous resident HM Queen Victoria and HRH Prince Albert, unveiled in 2019."
