Desperate village firefighters need you

WEDNESDAY JUNE 7.

MEN and women of Much Hadham ? your village fire station needs you!

That's the plea from fire crews who are keen to recruit and train men or women to join the station on a part-time basis.

Assistant divisional officer John Story said: 'The key role played by our retained colleagues cannot be understated.

'Without their dedication and enthusiasm, many rural areas of Hertfordshire such as the Hadhams would be less efficiently covered with an emergency response.'

Retained firefighters must live or work within five minutes of their local station and are required to carry audible pagers with them at all times so they can be alerted to incidents, run to the station, change and board the engine.

Anyone aged over 18 who wants more information can ring Peter Unthank on 843484 or visit the station any Tuesday from 7pm.

They are paid a £7.07 call-out fee each time they attend the station, whether firefighting or not.

If they are called to an incident, the payment rises to £13.02.
