Top acts to play historic house

Anastacia, above, and Simply Red are to play summer concerts on successive nights at historic Osborne House, East Cowes, it was announced this morning (Thursday).

THE ISLAND’S summer of music continues to get better and better, with news Osborne House is to host a spectacular two-night concert.

American pop princess Anastacia will be playing tracks from her new album, Heavy Rotation, on August 1, while Simply Red, the enduring British band whose hits include Holding Back the Years, If You Don’t Know Me By Now and Stars, will perform the following night.

Led by flame-haired frontman Mick Hucknall, they will play songs from their recent Greatest Hits 25 album.

Support acts include all-girl electric string quartet Escala, X-Factor winner Leon Jackson and Dutch soul sensation Alain Clark.

Organiser John Giddings, the man behind the Isle of Wight Festival, said: “It’s wonderful to be able to continue playing a part in developing the music and cultural scene on the Island and by once again attracting world-class acts to this wonderful location I’m looking forward to a cracking weekend.”

The two-night extravaganza follows the success of last year’s Osborne House event, which saw Girls Aloud and Paul Weller wow the crowds.

Dean Pascall, of English Heritage, said: “We are delighted to be attracting another fantastic line-up for this event.

“Staging concerts in the grounds of important historic sites like Osborne House is great for attracting a diverse audience and we hope people will go away with lasting memories of a fantastic evening’s entertainment and an important part of our British history.”

Tickets are available from tomorrow (Friday) from www.ticketzone.co.uk or by calling 08705 321321.
