‘Top cop flogged stolen goods’

Jason Bolwell.

A TOP Island police officer, moonlighting as a project manager on a construction site, used his force’s uniform to get a better price for the stolen goods he was flogging, a court heard this week.

Guildford Crown Court was told acting Insp Jason Bolwell, 41, who was working on an Isle of Wight holiday home development for Greek telecoms millionaire, Dr Tacis Gavoyannis, at Mill Lane, Brighstone, when he was supposed to be on duty, "added insult to injury" by selling off goods not belonging to him.

He even told stonemason Paul Rayner he was using his uniform to get more cash for the items, including roofing slates, it was alleged.

Mr Bolwell, of Amherst Place, Ryde, denies misconduct in public office, three charges of theft and one count of doing an act tending or intending to pervert the course of public justice, between September 2006 and January 2007.

He denied he was acting as a project manager on the site but was, instead, occasionally helping his wife, Amanda, who was acting as a manager, through her business, Island Property Management.

Russell Pyne, defending, said all cheques were made payable to Mr Bolwell’s wife, a former estate agent.

The trial continues.
