THE leader of the Isle of Wight Council has announced a reshuffle of the executive.

Cllr Jonathan Bacon said streamlining the senior roles would create a 'tighter, more focused' executive, enabling members to concentrate on the authority's regeneration efforts.

The executive member for public health, public protection and the highways PFI, Cllr Phil Jordan, has stepped down from the executive for personal reasons.

Cllr Bacon said: "This decision comes in light of the commitment of the council to pursue a medium term financial strategy that aims to transform the organisation over the next two years to enable sustainability of services in the medium to long term. We need to have a clear focus on regeneration over the coming months."

Following the restructure, the new executive roles are as follows:
• Jonathan Bacon (leader) — resources and children's services (formerly resources, children's services and organisational change)
• Steve Stubbings (deputy leader) — adult social care and public health (formerly adult social care and integration)
• Julia Baker-Smith — regeneration, housing and homelessness and transport (formerly planning and housing)
• Paul Fuller — environment, fire and local engagement (formerly environment, sustainability, and local engagement)
• Shirley Smart — planning, tourism and recreation and culture (formerly public transport, tourism, recreation and heritage)
• Ian Stephens — contract management (highways PFI and waste) and car parking (formerly regeneration, economic sustainability and development)
