A BRAND new dance tent at this year’s Isle of Wight Festival will play host to top acts Example and DJ Wire, Grandmaster Flash, Wiley, Jaguar Skills and Ms Dynamite, organisers announced today (Friday).
Other live bands and DJs confirmed to appear include A-Trak, DJ EZ, Madeon, Faith SFX, Benga, MistaJam, Lee Foss, Miguel Campbell, Huxley, Mosca, MK, Duke Dumont, Roses Gabor, Gorgon City, Waifs & Strays and Alexis Raphael.
Sub Focus, Andy C, Friction/Modestep and MONSTA have been added to the big-top bill.
Festival boss John Giddings told the County Press
he had introduced the dance tent because of popular demand.
"Having talked to a lot of our punters, it became apparent they didn’t want too many stages — which can be irritating because you can’t get round to see everyone you want to — but they did want a clearer choice.
"Improving the dance thing gives people a clear choice of a rock band on the main stage, a dance act or a singer-songwriter in the big top. This is what everyone has asked me for and I think I should listen to what my audience wants. Our audience is very loyal and I think their input should be valued," he said.
"I think it will be a great year. The worldwide response to the Boomtown Rats has been phenomenal. I didn’t realise Bob Geldof knows Bon Jovi, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets up on stage with him."
The dance tent will be set up near the campsite, where the big screens were positioned last year for the European Championships football.
"We will need to move things around and we are working on that at the moment. It’s a smaller area and people can get very excited — we saw that when Chase and Status played the big top — so public safety is of paramount importance," said Mr Giddings.
