FRESHWATER Parish Council has agreed to donate £100 to the Tennyson toposcope project.
The toposcope, a monument which indicates the direction and distance to visible landmarks, will be unveiled on Freshwater’s Tennyson Down on August 6 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the poet laureate’s birth.
It has been designed by Freshwater graphic artist Tim O’Brien and carved by Wight Stonemasons.
• A raffle to raise funds for the toposcope has been boosted by the donation of two very special books, worth £120. Signed copies of An Animated Life and A Century of Model Animation: from Melies to Aardman, have been donated by veteran special effects producer Ray Harryhausen, whose work includes Jason and the Argonauts and Clash of the Titans.
Both are co-written with Isle of Wight author and film historian Tony Dalton, who lives in Freshwater Bay.
Tickets are available from Freshwater Bay Post Office and all IW Tourist Information offices.
