Top Shop in Newport, which failed to get proper planning permission from the Isle of Wight Council.
A £250,000 revamp of a clothing chain’s Isle of Wight branch could fall foul of planning bosses at the Isle of Wight Council.
Topshop, Newport, which re-opened today (Thursday) has come under fire after it was revealed the firm put in a new shop front and sign without getting planning permission.
Now, planning bosses at the council have advised the store that it could be subject to enforcement action if planning permission is not granted when the application is heard by members of the council’s planning committee.
Bill Murphy, the Isle of Wight Council’s head of planning, said: "We are aware Topshop has undertaken work to their shop front before securing appropriate planning permission.
"We have advised the company that any work they have undertaken is at their own risk and should the applications be refused, they will be subject to enforcement action."
The council said enforcement action could include having to restore the building to its previous appearance.
Top Shop declined to comment.
