THE new look administration at County Hall has been revealed following Wednesday’s election of Tory Cllr Dave Stewart as leader.
The decision-making body includes three independent members and a UKIP councillor, alongside five Conservatives including Cllr Stewart and his deputy Stewart Hutchinson.
Cllr Stewart said: "This cross-party team uphold my ambitions to provide professional leadership for the council in a caretaking capacity up to the local council elections in May.
"I know that they will act ethically and with integrity to provide the best possible service for Island residents, and to ensure that effective decisions and actions are taken as necessary.
"Over the next few weeks, our focus will be upon the need to set and agree a robust council budget for 2017/18, which will be considered by the Full Council on February 22. We will be working closely with council officers to address service needs and establish the best way forward for council services in relation to this and to meet the £7.5 million gap in council funding already identified.
"Yesterday we had a very productive and enlightening meeting with council officers about the budget; as a result I am confident that we will be able to lead the council to achieve our primary objective of setting a legal and balanced budget for next year."

* But Isle of Wight Council Labour group leader Geoff Lumley hit out at the suggestion the new executive was cross party, with neither Labour or Lib Dem councillors being approached.

Cllr Lumley said: "Although I would have rejected any offer, it is rubbish to claim something that is so patently untrue.

"This is not cross-party and the Tories wouldn't offer me a bucket of water if I was in a burning shed. I couldn't possibly work with people who are hell-bent on destroying public services to vulnerable people.

"It is interesting though that under the previous administration's two different leaders I was offered an executive place and rejected it both times as I felt I had no mandate for such a role.

"Additionally Isle off Wight Labour do not enter into formal alliances, unlike UKIP who can now be seen for what they are - just Tory-nasty - and with no mandate for their new role."
