TOTLAND residents can now benefit from a new village computer suite.
The parish council has bought three computer work stations with a grant of almost £2,000 from the Isle of Wight Rural Community Council, in a bid to cater for residents who do not own a home computer.
Based at the parish office, the new ICT suite was officially opened on Monday last week by parish council chairman Cllr Carol Bryan.
Cllr Bryan said she applied for funding after a number of residents said they would like to learn how to use a computer.
"We have quite a lot of elderly residents in Totland, some of whom are absolutely petrified of computers, and our aim is to get them online. But by the same token, there are plenty of youngsters who might want to use a computer but can’t afford to have one at home," she said.
"The amount of interest has been very surprising — we didn’t think it would be so popular. It’s a great facility for the village."
