Police are warning residents to beware of bogus telephone calls made to extract cash from them.

The appeal follows a call made to an elderly Richmond woman from a man claiming to be a relative. The man, who used the correct name of the relative claimed to have won the National Lottery. Convincing the woman that he was genuine, he went on to say he could not yet cash the cheque and asked for a loan. Later she grew suspicious and called the police.
