TRAFFIC delays quickly built up after an Isle of Wight motorist collided with a lamp-post in Fairlee Road, Newport, this afternoon (Friday).

Police said the driver was taken by ambulance to St Mary’s Hospital, after the collision was reported at 3.39pm. No other vehicles were involved.

* The male driver was taken to hospital after complaining of chest pains, according to a hospital spokesman. He was treated at the Emergency Department and discharged.

Eleven minutes later, delays were made worse by an accident at Blackwater Road. Two vehicles ended up in the front garden of a house.

Police said there were no injuries, the house was not damaged and the cars were able to be driven away.
