ISLANDLINE services were brought to a halt on Wednesdat night after reports of a possible air rifle attack on a train.
The incident, in which a train window was shattered from the outside, is believed to have occurred at around 5pm in the Foxes Bridge area of Sandown and led to train services being significantly delayed.
British Transport Police inspector Mick Morriss told the County Press: "We know that a missile of some sort, whether it be an air rifle pellet or a stone, hit the train window and shattered it.
"A female passenger received a minor cut to the head and foot, but did not need hospital treatment.
"There is a possibility that it might have been some sort of air weapon, but we do not know.
"The carriage has been taken out of service and will be examined forensically."
He said police were on scene quickly and searched the surrounding area, but did not find anyone.
