THE return of rail services on the Isle of Wight yesterday (Sunday), a week earlier than expected, has been welcomed by transport campaigners.

The Isle of Wight Bus and Rail Users Group (IWBRUG) and Railfuture Wessex has congratulated Network Rail and South West Trains for the work to restore Island Line, following damage during storms in December.

Isle of Wight BRUG chairman Stuart George said the group was delighted by the work.
