TREES have been blamed for disruption to some mobile phones on the Isle of Wight.
Vodaphone customers have complained of poor reception in the Shanklin area over recent weeks — and the company has said it believes trees could be to blame.
A spokesperson for Vodafone confirmed to the Isle of Wight County Press: "We do have a problem with a local site. It seems that tree growth is disrupting the 'line of sight’ required by our transmission link.
"We’re trying to locate the owner of the trees to see if we can arrange to reduce the height."

Vodafone didn't mention anything about trees when I phoned them to find out why I was having problems. They just said the Shanklin mast had a fault logged on 13th and they could not tell me when it would be repaired. However they have refunded a months charges as they admitted they were not providing the service they should be!

It's not the trees, they have had a fault on the mast situated near Woods trade supplies in the station yard since the 12th August and are still trying to fix it.

So they were relying on trees not growing? Surely it doesn't take much research to find out that trees grow.

When i phoned vodaphone, to have a moan they had a look at the iow and they got it down to a problem with "the local site" and that was their pole at Newchurch that was playing up, that was 3 weeks ago but the last few days my phone has been ok.

my mother and i have noticed that in the last 3/4 weeks there has been no reception in the high street / regent street area of shanklin and no problems in our homes that are in higher areas of shanklin. this happened a couple of years ago and it was found that it was because vodafone were upgrading the masts to accomodate 3g. at least we now know what is causing this problem this time and hopefully vodafone can resolve it quickly now they are aware what is causing the signal to be blocked.its amazing how years ago before mobiles were invented we all had to use a phone box but now we all take our mobiles for granted and when they dont work alot of people are lost without them! makes you think how times change!!
