ENTERTAINING Lorraine Kelly put her back into it as she heave-hoed her way through the Kaffirs of Cookham annual festive competition The Boxing Day Games.

The GMTV presenter joined hundreds of other Cookham Dean residents and braved freezing temperatures for the wintery frolics which opened with a blindfolded wheelbarrow race.

The village-based charity fundraising group has been holding the event on The Old Cricket Common in Cookham Dean for about 30 years.

This year there were nine teams of eight taking part hoping to win the coveted loo seat trophy.

Lorraine was part of the Cookham Wanderers team and was there with her family including seven-year-old daughter Rosie.

Organiser Peter Austen said the event usually raises around £200 which the group donates to good causes.

He said: "The competitors mostly come from the Cookhams. It started with the pubs putting in teams and now it's a village event.

"It used to be a football competition but it has been like this for about 20 years. But the last games always finish in time to go to the Jolly Farmer to warm-up."

Competitor David Reynolds was a member of the winning team, the Flaming Drambuies. He was there with his brother and friends.

The 24-year-old city accountant said: "We absolutely steamed it, there was no competition. We come every year but this year the team was thinking 'let's not bother' but we all made the effort and it paid-off."
