London Kiwis.................24
LONDON Kiwis showed again on Saturday why they deserve a place in a competitive league next season with a solid win over Hitchin, of the Middlesex and Herts League division two.
The Kiwis were without their star fullback, Rhys Bennett, but the Welsh international's boots were filled by Anthony Webber, who plays for the Dutch national side, and a win still followed.
They went ahead in the tenth minute, Danny Trigg, the captain, touching down. Although Hitchin hit back with a penalty soon afterwards, it was to be their only contribution as the Kiwis showed strength and power across the pitch.
Their centres, Jo Hutley and Brett Forsyth, combined brilliantly for the second try, scored by Forsyth, as the backs shone.
But it was the forwards, depleted earlier this season, who really showed what they could do. Led by John Williams in the second row, they were magnificent. Both flankers, Geoff Clarke and Ben Koop, were awesome, tackling hard and chasing every cause, worthwhile or otherwise.
Trigg scored a second try for the Kiwis while Hutley kicked a penalty and two conversions. Duane Hunter also slotted a conversion.
