TV star’s backing for charity walk

Geoffrey Hughes.

TV STAR Geoffrey Hughes is set to help launch a charity walk later this month to help in the fight against prostate cancer.

Mr Hughes is joining forces with former film extra and male model, John Fraser, for the charity stroll which is due to take place on Sunday, March 27, taking in some of the most beautiful areas in West Wight.

John, 70, from Madeira Lane, hopes scores of other people will be joining him for the charity stroll wearing their underpants, Superman style, outside their trousers.

It is the third year running John has organised the walk, which has so far raised thousands of pounds for the Prostate Cancer Charity.

He was first diagnosed with the condition in 2001 and has undergone radiotherapy and surgery in his ongoing battle with the disease.

When he undertook the walk last year, it looked as if he had beaten the condition but the cancer has now returned.

Mr Hughes, who has starred in long-running soap Coronation Street, The Royle Family and Keeping Up Appearances, received radiotherapy treatment on the mainland in August last year after collapsing at his Newport home.

He had suffered with prostate cancer several years ago but believed he had beaten the disease.

He was appointed as a deputy lord lieutenant of the Island last year.
