The twister over Nodehill. Picture by Jay Fletcher.
TWISTERS might be a familiar sight in parts of the US but shoppers in Newport had a surprise when two appeared in the sky.
They were spotted over Nodehill on Wednesday last week but they did not touch down and there has been no reported damage.
Jay Fletcher, of the Cafe on the Corner, was among those to grab his phone in time to capture the phenomenon.
"A customer came in and pointed out the first one to us. It was there for about five minutes and then disappeared. Then a second one appeared in the same spot," said Jay.
The UK experiences about 30 tornadoes a year, the Met Office said.
