A CAMPER VAN has crashed into a house in Carisbrooke this afternoon (Tuesday).

The white Volkswagen Transporter crashed into the property, close to the Waverley Inn, at around 3.20pm.

Police were called to the scene, however Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service and Ambulance Service said they had not been called.

A police spokesman said there were no reports of injuries to either the occupants of the vehicle or the property.

At 4pm the spokesman said that section of Carisbrooke High Street was closed in both directions.

Isle of Wight Council building inspectors have been called to the house.

*Isle of Wight Council building control manager John Lutas said: "We were called to attend a property at Carisbrooke High Street after police reported that a vehicle had collided with a building. On arrival it was clear that there was severe structural damage to the property.

"After carrying out a careful assessment, the vehicle was removed from the scene and we worked with contractors to provide temporary propping to make the building safe."
