THE Vecks rocked the O2 arena in the national final of Live and Unsigned on Saturday.

The Isle of Wight band, who hail from Seaview, performed in front of thousands of music fans, including scores of their own supporters who wore t-shirts and waved flags emblazoned with the Vecks’ name.

Frontman Jack Skinner said: "We had an amazing weekend. Unfortunately we didn’t win but we did gain some brilliant contacts."

The band certainly made an impression on the judges who said they loved their music.

The band, whose music is influenced by the late sixties and early seventies, made it through a series of regional heats to secure their big moment on the national stage.

The contest was dubbed Britain’s biggest original music competition with prizes including £10,000, a recording contract and festival appearances.

Jack added: "The atmosphere was very relaxed and everyone was there for one thing only, to have a good time.

"Being an Island band means any type of exposure is important."

The Vecks have also been booked to play V-Dub, Bestival and Seaview’s Party on the Prom.

They will also play the Wight Rock Bar in Ryde on July 27.
