April 30, 2001 15:50: DRIVERS in Crystal Palace are set to benefit from a £2m development of the Upper Norwood Triangle.

The improvements include the introduction of a one-way system to take traffic clockwise around Westow Hill, Church Road and Westow Street. New pedestrian crossings will be installed and pavements widened in the scheme which is funded by the Crystal Palace Partnership (CPP) through the single regeneration budget.

Head of Community Renewal at Bromley Council Barbara Thompson said: "The project is part of a £6m scheme to increase the effectiveness and safety of transport around the Crystal Palace area. Following the spending of £4m on a new bus terminus and the refurbishment of Crystal Palace station, which is nearing completion, the area is set to be served by a vastly improved public transport system."

The CPP employed consultants to come up with the plans to combat traffic congestion problems in the area.

Crystal Palace will also benefit from an on-street tree planting programme and the installation of CCTV cameras.

Work on the £2m project is expected to start in the autumn, and will take up to 18 months to complete.
